(SSCS) is pleased to announce the introduction of the VS-Poll Interface for the
VeriFone Sapphire, a site controller engineered for use with Ruby terminals or
Topaz registers for c-store operations, conventional service stations and
self-serve stations. The VS-Poll Interface passes sales data from the store’s
Sapphire system to the SSCS Computerized Daily Book (CDB) back office system
(BOS). The interface passes data from the CDB to the POS, as well.
The VS-Poll Interface makes sending and receiving large amounts of data easy.
Data is passed between the Sapphire and a networked PC running CDB using a
direct-connect cable, if both machines are on-site. If the Sapphire is off-site,
data may be streamed between the controller and the networked PC using the WAN
port of the Sapphire router configured by a VeriFone authorized service
contractor (ASC). In this case, a static IP address for the site over the
Internet is used to create a connection.
Retrieving fuel and non-fuel sales data generated by the POS is a matter of a
few simple steps with VS-Poll. So is posting that data to the CDB. Programming
the Sapphire from the PC running CDB—whatever its location—is likewise possible,
a capability that includes report generation. The same workstation can upload
new site parameters and prices for all the operation’s Sapphire controllers,
assuring uniformity among sites and significantly reducing the time required to
make changes. Best of all, this additional functionality does not disrupt work
flow at the POS.
“Fuel retailing has grown more complex and operators need
sophisticated tools that add efficiencies without getting in the way of how they
do business,” states SSCS Vice President of Sales and Marketing Al Stoeberl.
“The VS-Poll Interface addresses this requirement by facilitating tight
management control from the convenience of a central location—even in
enterprises with remote stores. It’s also a great way for CDB users to leverage
the powerful features of the Sapphire.”
